Description
Made in China for (maybe) in hopes of cashing in on the 5.56mm select-fire AK rifles.
As far as I know, this weapon is relatively unknown to the world (source: TFB). It was also used by Brigade Mobil special police troops in my country. This rifle is often mistaken as 'Chinese AK-101' in local mass media. An alleged corruption caused these rifles were mixed up in AK-101 procurements.
It was reported that this rifle has no factory marking other than 'AK-2000P' name on it. So it is unknown which factory in China that made these weapons. It could be Norinco or another factory. Nevertheless, AK-2000P quality is so bad, it was easy to jam, prone to breakdown, parts aren't interchangeable with Russian counterpart, etc.
Now most of these rifles are scrapped or kept in storage. Few of them still in use, now mostly replaced with genuine Russian AK-101 or local made SS-1 and Sabhara rifle variants. Last time I saw this rifle it was in 2010-2011, carried by patrolling Brigade Mobil officers (along with AK-101) near Central Telecommunications Office of East Java (there were terrorism issues, so special police patrol was needed).
